South Somerset is beautiful and vibrant and steeped in history and legends, such as King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Discover the area for yourself.
Food and Drink
Somerset is rich in farms and agriculture, there are many wonderful small producers and farm shops. We can arrange a basket of local produce to be here for your arrival. A seasonal vegetable box is only £6 and a breakfast box with local bacon, sausages, eggs and other goodies only £10. Please place your order when you book.
There are also a number of pubs and restaurants that are excellent from the Famous Parrett Café to the local pub. Somerset is famous for cider and there are many producers locally including Burrow Hill www.ciderbrandy.co.uk - well worth a visit to see how the cider is made and of course tastings.
Days Out
There are many things to do and a huge array of attractions, these are just a select few:
- The Willow and Wetlands Centre where you can enjoy the history of willow weaving and walk among the withies.
- There are many gardens to visit and famous nurseries such as Kelways famous for Peonies www.kelways.co.uk and East Lambrook Garden www.eastlambrook.com
- There are also all of the wonderful villages, towns and cities close by such as Langport, Somerton, Wells, Glastonbury and Bath. If you fancy a day of retail therapy there is always Clarks Village an outlet centre.
- Museums in the area include Fleet Air Arm Museum and Haynes Motor Museum. Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole are natural attractions that offer plenty to do.
- If you want the seaside beaches then you are only 30-40 minutes away.
Walking and Activities
We are located on the River Parrett trail, a beautiful trail through unspoilt countryside. www.riverparrett-trail.org.uk . Somerset has many old churches and Abbeys that accompany legends and tales. In our village is Muchelney Abbey and close by are Barrington Court, Montacute House and Glastonbury Abbey to name a few www.english-heritage.org.uk.
- Being a flat area it is wonderful for cycling and we have maps of routes that you can use. You can even hire bikes or a tandem in Langport.
- Fishing is available at Thorney Lakes which is located next door www.thorneylakes.co.uk.
- There is golf close by at Long Sutton Golf Club they welcome non members as well. www.longsuttongolf.com
- Fine walks also include Ham Hill Country Park, Nine Springs Country Park and the RSPB centre at West Sedgemoor.
- There is a leisure centre locally where you can arrange a game of tennis, squash and badminton. They also have an outdoor heated swimming pool open between May - September this has a large grass area to picnic and layout on.
Arts and Crafts
There is a rich supply of artists and skilled craftsmen in the area. Located close by is the famous potter John Leach www.johnleachpottery.co.uk. We use local people's work in our cottages so you will find examples of work in your cottage.
In Somerton you will find the Gallery for the Somerset Guild of Craftsmen where the superb design and craftsmanship is on display and for sale.
